What is required for creating VR (Virtual Reality) experiences

Virtual Reality or VR for short is one of the most exciting emerging technology of recent times. It allows one to be seemingly transported to another (often magical) world albeit a virtual one.

In order to create a good Virtual Reality(VR) experience, the following are required:

  1. VR Head Mounted Display (HMD) and supporting hardware
A comprehensive system may consists of VR headset, Base stations, motion controllers and all the necessary cables that comes with the package. This category include products such as HTC Vive and Occulus Rift.Virtual reality VR gear
  2. VR-ready computer
Such machines can be a desktop computer or a laptop. These machines often have high graphics and processing requirement. A minimum requirement will include the inclusion of a VR-ready dedicated graphics card from AMD or Nvidia such as GTX1060 or higher.
  3. Software that supports VR
These are often relatively complex 3D visualisation softwares or game engines. Popular ones includes Unreal Engine and Unity game engine. These programs have steep learning curves. Fortunately, they are easier alternatives such as Simlab Composer.

If all these sound complex and daunting to you, it probably is.

However, at Studiorola, we can ease the complexity by offering services (in Singapore and Southeast Asia) pertaining to the setting up of VR systems and the subsequent training essential for creating and converting assets for these experiences.
