The design is modelled using Blender 3D and rendered with Yafaray Renderer, both of which are high-quality open-source programs. Path-tracing was used as the GI lighting method. Multiple anti-alias passes, coupled with tight threshold value were used to clean up the noise inherent with this type of rendering algorithm.

The concept development and work-in-progress can be found here.

After months of inertia, I finally found the time to give Tacharia some textures and hair. Tacharia is the fictitious space traveller cum photographer from my free 3D science fiction artbook, the Uncommon Paradigm. I don’t want him to the the typical cliche scifi he-man. Instead, I wanted him to be a most-ordinary man-on-the-street kind of character.

Tacharia is modelled and illustrated entirely using Blender, with GIMP being used for texture-making and post-editing. Both software are open-sourced and free, keeping to the spirit of using only lowcost/free programs for Uncommon Paradigm’s creations. The Uncommon Paradigm, which is PDF formatted and freely distributable, can be downloaded here.
